CORY + MCKENNA SUNSHINE COAST COUPLES PHOTOS

You guys know that I’m a sucker for an adventurous sunset couples session! It is my ultimate favourite subject to photograph. Especially when we get to explore places like this which happen to be my back yard.. I know, how lucky am I? Right here are two of my favs, my brother Cory and his girlfriend, Mckenna. They are my lil models when I need them and they are so dang good at it! This location we shot at was literally right behind my house (with no one around of course) and I am OBSESSED with how they turned out. It is giving me all of the summer vibes and man oh man I have SO many ideas for session once I am allowed to shoot again!

We ran along the dirt roads and hit golden hour on the side of a mountain. Magical, right? They are so darn happy these two, and my brother is such a jokester. That always helps break the ice and get them comfortable in front of my camera!! You wouldn’t know it, but he claims he doesn’t always like to be in front of the camera - well bro, you guys look FIRE!! Mckenna is currently going to school at UVIC and Cory just passed his real estate exam - I am so proud of the both of them. They also have a six month old french bull dog, Hazel who, is not pictured here because she was too busy playing with Finley lol. I will admit that this quarantine has gifted us the time to spend with each other. I sure miss my brother and having spent almost two months with him now has been really nice. Anyways, these love birds have been together for almost two years now and they are so flippin’ cute!

WHY DID WE CHOOSE THE BACKROADS?

I’ve had a lot of inspiration lately to create create create! We were also vvvv blessed with gorgeous weather for the month of March and I needed to take advantage of that. So, we started exploring in the back yard and even though I went into this shoot with a different vision in mind, I’m so happy with how the result turned out. I’m a lover for the trees/mountains/desert-looking vibes. All of it. We have soo much beauty available at our fingertips, so I really try to incorporate being adventurous into my imagery as much as I can. Honestly, we just cruised around until I said “STOP! The light is good right here!” (this usually happens at all of my sessions FYI). We did the photos just before sunset that afternoon, so it was still fairly bright out when we were exploring the back roads. We took about a one to two hour break and headed to the mountain side to capture some sunset golden hour photos! The good thing with asking a couple to photograph them is that they allowed me to experiment and try new tricks. I was loving it and I taught myself some pretty cool stuff.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS?

I always advise my couples to wear something that is comfortable, but still has a touch of their style and personality. I go over this with my couples in their questionnaires when they book. You can also check out my Pinterest where I have boards on what to wear for your session! Cory + Mckenna didn’t have a ton of options as they didn’t realize they were coming to Powell River for two months and only packed a weeks worth of clothes hahaha. So, we gathered what they brought and Mckenna borrowed my rust-coloured jumpsuit which I think fits these photos and location SO good! I like how their outfits complement each other with the neutral tones, but they also have a summery look to them.
